II. Meditation: Tips For Success

DAILY PRACTICE

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

(Establishing A Daily Meditative Practice)

1. PICK A REGULAR TIME OF DAY

We are all creatures of habit and developing a regular meditative practice is no exception. Pick a regular time every day that works best for you and your schedule. Morning, day, or night: it doesn’t matter. It’s important to have a regularly scheduled time set aside for your practice as a commitment to your sobriety.

2. FIND A COMFORTABLE SPACE

It’s often hard to calm and settle our minds if we’re not in a safe and comfortable space. Take some time and allocate a pleasant and relaxing space for your sits. Find a favorite chair or cushion, light some incense, or dim the lights to make the space more inviting.

3. MAKE THE COMMITMENT

Beginning today, set the Wise Intention to meditate daily and make the commitment to yourself. Consider it an act of kindness towards yourself for yourself.  What starts as a daily habit, gradually becomes a routine. And what becomes routine, becomes a part of our identity. Don’t just meditate daily, become a meditator. It can save your life.

4. KEEP IT SIMPLE

There is no need to overthink meditation. At the end of the day, do what feels right to you. Guided mediations, silent meditations, yoga/body work or even walking meditations. Always keep it simple. A little mediation is better than no meditation.

5. BE KIND TO YOURSELF

When learning a new skill, there will naturally be ups and downs to your practice. This doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong; it’s a natural part of the process. Always remember to be kind to yourself as you continue to learn and grow. Welcome to the Path of recovery.
