II. Meditation: Action Items

ACTION ITEMS

II. MEDITATION

Main Idea: Daily, or at least a regular formal meditation practice is foundational to a Buddhist approach to recovery. Meditation is a foundational tool for overcoming craving, addiction and harmful behaviors.

TIMELINE OF EXPECTATIONS

  • Early Sobriety: Some meditation, any mediation, is better than no meditation. Focus on developing a regularity of habit, over the specifics of practice.
  • Maturing Sobriety: We gradually ease into a formalized daily practice that fits our lives, and our recovery needs. We more formally begin to explore what is known as Insight Meditation and the Heart Practices.
  • Mature Sobriety: We establish a daily mediation practice. We attend yearly retreats. We share with others new to Buddhist recovery our early struggles, and help them know that they are not alone, and that recovery is possible.
