Course Overview: Our 4-Week Plan
Course Schedule
During this course, you will learn about the foundational principles of a traditional Buddhist meditation practice. Each week we will progressively work our way through what are commonly referred to as the ‘Four Foundations of Mindfulness’, while simultaneously working our way through a series of practices known as the four brahma-vaharas or ‘Heart Practices’ (Metta Loving-Kindness, Compassion, Appreciative-Joy, Equanimity).
WEEK 1 – Getting Started – “Establishing A Daily Routine”
- Main Objective: Establish a daily habit and routine for meditative practice.
- Objective #1: Introduction to Mindfulness of Breath & Body (Insight Meditation #1)
- Objective #2: Introduction to Metta Loving-Kindness practice (Heart Practice #1)
WEEK 2 – Getting Settled – “Overcoming Challenges”
- Main Objective: Settle into the practice, and begin to strength our practice.
- Objective #1: Introduction to Mindfulness of Feeling Tone (Insight Meditation)
- Objective #2: Introduction to Compassion practice (Heart Practice)
WEEK 3 – Expanding The Practice – “Taking It Off The Cushion”
- Main Objective: Begin to carry our practice into all aspects of our lives.
- Objective #1: Introduction to Mindfulness of Mind (Insight Meditation)
- Objective #2: Introduction to Appreciative-Joy practice (Heart Practice)
- Objective #3: Introduction to Equanimity practice (Heart Practice)
WEEK 4 – Healing & Forgiveness – “Continued Growth”
- Main Objective: Provide the foundation needed for a continued practice for years to come.
- Objective #1: Introduction to Mindfulness of Truth (Insight Meditation)
- Objective #2: Introduction to Forgiveness practice (Heart Practice)
